JANA FIGUEROA OBITUARY

Jana Sue Figueroa (née Dahlberg)

1952-2022

Salt Lake City, UT-Jana passed away on October 9th, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with COVID-19. She was born in 1952 to Mildred Evaline Winder and Carl Bernard Dahlberg. She was the youngest of six siblings, preceded by Jerry, Kent, Rex, Joy, and Jack.

Jana attended Sherman Elementary school, where her favorite teacher was Mrs. Brown. Her "worst years ever" were at Evergreen Junior High. These were redeemed by "wonderful years" as part of the first graduating class at Skyline High (class of 1970), where she was homecoming queen and performed with the La Niche's drill team. After one year of attending University of Utah, Jana packed up and followed her beloved brother and sister-in-law, Rex and Nancy, to Southern California.

In California, Jana opened The Seaward Gallery with her lifelong friend Linda, where they spent their days tending to plants in the sunshine. Her passing concluded a 32-year career as bookkeeper and accounting manager of R.B. Dahlberg Enterprises Inc. and the Kissel Company, where she will be dearly missed.

Jana had many passions in life, drawing joy from her personal relationship with God. She started dancing at the age of ten, and continued through her entire life. As a talented dancer, her repertoire included ballet, tap, character, and jazz, among other forms. She found peace and solace in the garden, tending plants with her naturally green thumb. She delighted in watching patterns in the sky on cloudy days. Later in life, Jana enjoyed being a soccer mom and caring for her dogs, Maggie and Maya, cats, Pando and Bissy, and turtle, Peanut. She always loved her hometown of Salt Lake City, and was grateful to return in early 2022. She is now in her final resting place, close to her mother, at the foot of the Uinta Mountains.

Jana was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Jerry, Kent, and Rex. She is survived by her siblings Joy (Bob) and Jack; sisters-in-law Joyce, Maurine, and Nancy; children Dustin (Stephanie Beth) and Samantha; and many much-loved nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park on October 22nd at 11:00 am. The family requests that those joining the service test negative for COVID-19. They also ask Jana's loved ones to donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in lieu of sending flowers. If you wish, please bring a photo of Jana to contribute to the guest book.

I will always remember Jana as such a beautiful, talented, and kind person who always made a positive contribution to our SHS class.  While unfortunately circumstances did not give me the pleasure of associating with her during these past many decasdes, I know that my life was richly blessed by having known her during the SHS glory days.  I pray for blessings of comfort and peace to be with her family, and I hope that they may be continually uplifted through their fond memories of her life. RIP, dear Jana.

We  all loved Jana. I can think of nothing in addition to, nor better expressed than the words of David Jackson. I wish that I  had known her better and for longer than just at Skyline.
