Barbara Glick (Mason)

Barbara Mason Obituary

Barbara Lynn Glick Mason, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and step-great grandmother, passed away May 28th, 2025, at her home, with her husband by her side, after a two year-long valiant battle with ALS.

Barbara was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on September 21st, 1951, and adopted at birth by Harry and Ruth Glick. She grew up in Olympus Cove, attended Skyline High School, and studied art at the University of Utah.

Barbara met her future husband, Tim Mason, while attending the University of Utah. They married on December 28th, 1972, in the Provo Temple. As a military spouse, she accompanied her husband on his many assignments in Texas, Alabama, Alaska, the Philippines, and California. Their son Travis was born in the Philippines, daughter Whitney was born in Texas, and daughter Ashlee was born in California. After their military experience, they returned home to Utah.

Barbara was a loving, fun, generous, deeply creative, and spiritual woman. Her creative talents were always in high demand whether they were for friends, church, or while serving as a commercial artist for different advertising agencies and magazines such as Alaska Magazine. Her greatest career creative achievements were experienced as a layout designer and art director for the ZCMI advertising department. That was her dream job. The fashion shows she produced for ZCMI at Kingsbury Hall, Midway and other locations in the 90's were legendary.

Barbara was an active member of the LDS Church and served numerous church callings. She always wanted the best for her family and was a dedicated champion of her children’s numerous pursuits – never missing a baseball game, dance recital, or gymnastics meet. She touched the lives of many people in her community, and they, along with her family, will sorely miss her kindness and infectious laugh.

Barbara loved to travel. She and Tim were able to travel to over forty countries. Among her favorites were China, Antarctica, and the southern African countries. She was fascinated by experiencing diverse cultures and customs.

Barbara was a gentle warrior during her sickness, never losing her dignity or sense of humor. She is survived by her husband Timothy, her son Travis Mason (and his wife Kristin Kooyman Mason), her daughters Whitney Mason Barney (and her husband Matthew Barney), Ashlee Mason (and her husband Jason Stock), and brothers Steve and Kenneth Glick.

For those wishing to pay respect to Barbara and the Mason family, a viewing will take place at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd, Sandy, 84092, from 6 PM to 8PM on June 5th. Funeral services will be on Friday, June 6th, at the Sublette LDS chapel, located at 2115 East Sublette Place, 8455 South, Sandy, Utah 84093. The Friday viewing will start at 10 AM followed by the funeral service at 11 AM.

This was truly one of my first friends in Mount Olympus.  It's unfortunate how we loose track and time of people who touched our lives and always stayed in our hearts.  To her family, I'm sorry for your your loss...

I always remember what a fun and beautiful girl she was growing up in Mt. Olympus Cove together.  Early on, our paths would cross from time to time. I very much admired her artistic abilities.  It's wonderful that she was able to bring such happiness and joy to others through those talents.  My condolensces to her family.

Barbara invited me to the first birthday party I ever intended just after moving to the Mt Olympus Cove area when I was 6 years old.  Stange that I never knew her better than occasional chats after that, but the rapid changes in schools, split sessions in 4th grade, and exploding number of baby boomer kids probably had something to do with that. Her wit and intelligence always shone through.  I am gratified to learn that she lived a long, happy, and productive life doing the things she loved and serving others through dedicated Church service.

I was shocked this morning (6/3/25) to discover that Barbara had left us, as well as to learn what awful disease it was that she was able to leave behind her when she left. At Skyline I had known her casually and had even been invited to one of her parties at the "round house." She even had experienced her car accident, straight through the block from my house, on 27th East by Howard R. Driggs Elementary. But for all of that, I never knew Barbara very well and we did not interact much. Despite that, I knew her to be an artistically-gifted, lovely person. I'm sad she is gone.

Am I right in thinking that Barbara did the cover of the 1970 Aquilian (our yearbook); that has been my memory.

I, too, grew up with Barbara in the Mt. Olympus area and was in multiple elemetary classes with her. I recall her artistic talents and intellegence were recognized early. She came from a wonderful family with amazing and talented parents. Like John Muir, I remember being invited to Barbara's birthday parties at a young age at the "round house." At the party, her older brother took us on go-cart rides arount the round track in the back yard. Probably mostly due to my own shyness, I didn't associate with Barbara much during our school years, but now I wish I had. She was an outstanding individual!

I also grew up with Barbara and always admired her quick wit and fabulous artistic talents.  I remember how sweet and special her parents were and how they loved and supported Barbara and her friends.

I have the distinct honor of having Barbara and Tim's first dog (an Irish Setter with red hair) named after me!
