My life has been a great hike. Not all uphill, not all downhill. Some rain, some snow, hot days, cold nights. I have seen my share of wildlife, even a grizzly bear. I have never run out of food, but I have had to scrounge in the bottom of my pack a time or two. I have had some great hiking companions and I have learned to enjoy the solitude of hiking alone. I have thrilled to the wide vista and trembled in the narrow slot canyons. The sunrises have filled me with joy and energy and the peaceful sunsets have brought quiet and reflection. I have learned how to keep pace with the march and break away to examine the tiniest of wildflowers struggling up through the red soil. I have learned the hike is the destination.

When I kissed Steve Adams on our first date, my friends put a scarlet letter "A" in my locker the next day.
