I left Skyline, went to U of U, graduating in June 1971. Went to U of U Medical School, graduating 1975. Internship and residency at Duke University Medical school, then training in Endocrinology, molecular biology and Critical Care Medicine. On Duke faculty until 1984 and was Director of Duke MICU. Moved to Houston in 1984, joined Baylor faculty. Served as Director of Critical Care Medicine fellowship, Director of MICU at The Methodist Hospital, CoChief Pulmonary / CCM at Baylor and Methodist. Left Baylor 2004 to set up an independent practice as an intensivist. Scientific career in the area of biochemistry of adrenaline receptors, was the first to clone and sequence the human G protein gene which was one of the first human genes fully sequenced. Discovered the thermodynamic reason beta blockers like metoprolol block adrenaline while adrenaline sticks to the same receptor protein yet turns it on. Discovered how acidosis impairs adrenaline and related hormones and drugs in critical illness. Have a startup company, PatientCentral Technologies, LLC which provides technologies to improve patient-centered care. We have created MyHealthArchive, a highly sophisticated personal health information system (see website above).
